What makes The Global Academic different?
Students benefit from guidance grounded in real-world experience. Our coaches are current university professors with decades of experience. Collectively, we have taught, mentored, and advised thousands of college students. We understand what professors expect because we are professors ourselves. Every semester, we see firsthand the habits and strategies that help students succeed – and the common pitfalls that hold them back. Our guidance isn't based on theory or trends; it's grounded in years of experience helping students navigate college with confidence and purpose.
My college offers a lot of resources. Why should I hire you?
Colleges offer tremendous resources, and we encourage our students to take full advantage of them. The challenge is that many students don't know which resources they need, when to use them, or even what questions to ask.
College operates by a different set of expectations than most students experienced in high school. Some are obvious, while others are hidden. As professors, we help students recognize those expectations, develop effective strategies, and connect with the right campus resources before small challenges become major obstacles. Our goal isn't to replace your university's support system – it’s to help students use it wisely.
I'm not struggling. Why should I get college success coaching?
It's a common misconception that college success coaching is only for students who are struggling. In reality, many of our students are already doing well – they simply want to perform at an even higher level.
Just as elite athletes and business leaders work with coaches to reach their full potential, students can benefit from expert guidance that helps them get the most out of their college experience. Coaching with a university professor helps students develop the habits, strategies, and mindset that distinguish exceptional students from the rest.
Why do smart students struggle in college?
Many students who excelled in high school discover that college requires a different approach. As professors, we see this every semester. Students who thrive are not always the smartest students—they're the ones who have developed strong habits, manage their time well, communicate effectively, seek out opportunities, build relationships with professors and peers, and know how to navigate the university environment. These skills aren't innate; they can be learned. Our coaching helps students develop them early so they can make the most of their college experience.
Is The Global Academic part of UC Irvine?
No. The Global Academic is an independent LLC founded by current UC Irvine faculty members. While we draw on our extensive experience as university professors, our coaching services are offered independently and are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by UC Irvine. We work with students from colleges and universities across the United States.
How is college success coaching different from tutoring?
Tutoring helps students master the material in a particular course. College success coaching helps students master the skills required to succeed across all of their courses.
We focus on time management, study strategies, exam preparation, communication with professors and peers, organization, motivation, long-term academic planning, and friendship building. The goal isn't simply to improve one grade – it's to help students become confident, independent learners who are prepared for success throughout college and beyond.
Is college success coaching only for first-year students?
Not at all. We work with students at every stage of college. Students often seek coaching during important transitions, including beginning college, choosing a major, seeking out internships, preparing for graduate or professional school, or recovering from a difficult semester. Others are simply looking to maximize their college experience.
Our family is more worried about our child’s well-being and social life than about academics. Can you help?
Absolutely. Academic success doesn't happen in isolation. Students thrive when they feel connected, supported, and confident in their college environment.
College success is about much more than academics. We help students build meaningful relationships with professors and peers, develop confidence, navigate campus life, and create healthy habits that support both personal well-being and academic success. Every coaching plan is tailored to the student's individual needs and goals.
What happens during the first coaching session?
The first session focuses on getting to know the student, understanding their strengths, goals, and current challenges. We also begin putting ideas into action immediately by helping students map out the semester ahead and develop a personalized plan for success.
When is the best time to start coaching?
The best time is before problems arise. Students who build effective habits early often avoid many of the challenges that become difficult to reverse later in the semester. That said, it's never too late to benefit from coaching.
Is everything we discuss confidential?
Yes. Coaching sessions in our IGNITE program are confidential, creating a space where students can openly discuss academic challenges, goals, and concerns.
For families participating in our IGNITE+ program, parents are active partners in the coaching process. We maintain open communication with families while fostering the student's independence and growth.
Do you work with students outside California?
Yes. Because coaching is conducted virtually, we work with students attending colleges and universities across the United States.
Do you work with international students coming to the United States?
Yes! Many of the challenges international students face are the same ones domestic students encounter – only that they are magnified. Our founders have experienced these transitions firsthand. We have been international students ourselves, and one of us came to the United States as a university professor after completing all of our education abroad. We understand the academic, cultural, and personal adjustments because we've lived them.
What results can students expect?
Every student's goals are different, so results vary. Students commonly report increased confidence, improved organization, stronger study habits, better communication with professors, reduced stress, and greater independence. Many also experience stronger academic performance and greater clarity about their academic and career goals as they consistently apply these skills over time.
